Summer Solstice Festival
The Summer Solstice Festival is a community fair held on the Albany County Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail (ACHHRT) to celebrate the longest day of the year and the start of summer. This is the 4th year for the event. Last year's Summer Solstice Festival was a huge success with more than 50 exhibitors and over 1,000 attendees.
The Summer Solstice Festival includes activities, vendors, food, animals, music and more, spread throughout the ACHH Rail Trail in Bethlehem and Voorheesville. New this year is a Hike-a-thon, which will be held on the Rail Trail and in four local nature preserves.
Albany County Helderberg
Hudson Rail Trail
The Albany County Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail is a nine mile stretch of an old D&H rail line running from Voorheesville to the Port of Albany. The Albany County Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail is owned by Albany County and is being developed and operated with the cooperation of the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy and its Friends of the Rail Trail committee, the Towns of Bethlehem and New Scotland, and the Village of Voorheesville.
Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy (MHLC)
MHLC is your local land trust, working day after day to improve the quality of life for all residents of the Capital Region. The work that we do to preserve the natural spaces in Albany, Montgomery, and Schenectady counties, directly impacts the health of the region. We have protected close to 4,000 acres of land including over 1,300 acres open to the public in the form of preserves – for hiking, cross-country skiing and other educational and recreational opportunities.
The Summer Solstice Festival is hosted by the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy and its Friends of the Rail Trail Committee.
What to Expect
The Summer Solstice Festival includes entertainment and activities for all ages. Local musicians, artists, dancers, animals, food and vendors, crafters, non-profits and many more will be exhibiting along the trail. The festival will begin at noon, immediately following the Hike-a-thon, and will end at 4 p.m.
This year we are excited to include a Hike-a-thon as part of the Summer Solstice Festival. Enjoy a morning hike in one of MHLC’s preserves and relax at the Solstice Festival in the afternoon. Hikes will be held on the Rail Trail and at 4 pre-selected MHLC preserves and will be led by expert guides. Hikers with pets are invited to join our Tails on the Rail Trail walk. All hikers receive a FREE Solstice T-Shirt. Space will be limited and carpooling is encouraged. Visit the Hike-a-thon page for more information:
The Summer Solstice Festival was developed to increase awareness of the Albany County Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail and to bring together the many communities it serves. This festival is an opportunity to experience the rail trail with friends and neighbors while enjoying a stroll on the trail. Join us on June 20th for a walk on this unique trail and learn more about local businesses and organizations while showing support for local artists, musicians and dance groups. The volunteers, vendors and attendees are what make the celebration fun for all!
We are excited to announce that the following vendors will be joining us at the Festival.
